Reasons why visitors hardly comment on your blog

“Hi po Pinoy Blogero. I need your help. I have a very large readership on my blog but I only get a handful of comments from them. Sometimes I only receive 2-3 comments on my posts. Why is this so?”

Having lots of comments per post is a healthy sign of a blog’s growth. But of course, this greatly depends per blog because not all blogs have the ability to lure lots of comments. But do not take this thought for granted, this is not always the case.

Sometimes there are other reasons why your visitors hardly comment on your posts. Chances are, you might be doing something wrong.

Here are the 5 reasons why visitors hardly comment on your posts. Check out each one and see if your posts still have the potential to garner more comments on your blog.

  • There is nothing interesting to comment on
Comments are usually spurred when something of interest catches a reader’s attention. If your post is not interesting at all, expect readers to immediately leave once they reach the end of your post.

The best thing to do here is to make your posts interesting. Know what your readers are looking for. Pick the topics that would interest them.

  • Visitors have no time to leave a comment
A lot of people don’t have the luxury of time to leave a comment. They’ll just read your blog, nod in agreement with your ideas, and then continue on to do other things. This is why you should make your post worthy of a comment. Give your readers a reason to spare some free time to comment on your blog.

You could also use some tools for quick comments, like Postreach’s ClickComments. This tool places a number of “reaction” buttons at the end of your posts for your readers to click on. For example, if your article has inspired you in some way, you could click the ‘inspired me’ button and your reaction will be counted.

  • There is no question to respond to
When reading an article, the mind unconsciously looks for ‘guide questions’ for them to establish their comments. This is because it is much easier to comment if they have a question that they could easily answer.

I have written something about this on my article “Encourage Feedback: Leave a question”. Ensure that you leave some questions within or at the end of your posts that are related to your post’s topic. A thought provoking question is ideal to give your readers an idea what to comment on.

  • Your post is a difficult to comprehend
Well, how do you expect your readers to comment if they could not understand the message that you are trying to convey on your post? You may end up with comments criticizing your post.

Always make sure that your post can be easily understood. Proofread it a couple of times. You could show it to others first for feedback.

  • Your post does not encourage interactions
Sometimes we end up with articles that are too well-built that there is no more room left for comments or interactions from the reader. Remember those thesis-like articles that are too long and have all the questions answered? These kinds of articles are often a one-way process, read it and don’t bother leaving a comment.

All you have to do is to encourage interaction on your posts. Leave an open topic that your readers can discuss.

Hope this helps! Happy blogging!

Hehe, your comment on they have nothing interesting to comment on is sad but true! I have come across many sites that don’t have good content or they are hard to comprehend. Great tips as always Karl.
