headsupyh3 Adsenses Actions Affects CTR Rates

Sylv3rblade shared this interesting news to me while we were at class this morning, he said that a lot of blogs for the past few months are actually experiencing a dramatic decrease in CTR (Click Through Rate) and has affected their daily earnings. I’m not really a high earner on Adsense but I bet a lot of those big name blogs have already noticed this.

Yuga from Yugatech.com thinks that this may be caused by the recent changes made by google where they reduced the clickable areas on their advertisements. I think so too.

For the benefit of the uninitiated, Click-through rate or CTR is a way of measuring the success of an online advertising campaign. A CTR is obtained by dividing the number of users who clicked on an ad on a web page by the number of times the ad was delivered (impressions). For example, if your banner ad was delivered 100 times (impressions delivered) and one person clicked on it (clicks recorded), then the resulting CTR would be 1 percent. (source: Wikipedia)

I guess we need to work even harder to get more CTRs on our adsense units like looking for more effective ad placements on our blogs. Sigh. Google has been doing a lot of changes lately, eh?

How about you guys? Notice any changes on your blog’s Adsense CTR? Do these recent developments regarding Adsense make you want to look for other modes of income? Share your comments below!

Happy blogging!

@Winston Hmm… I guess the effects of the CTR Rates depends per blogger. Still, sharing it would be a nice heads up for readers.

@Caroline Yeah, that move by Google was intended to improve and balance the Adsense System, however, some bloggers don’t like how it affects their daily income.

    BTW, Nice comic blog!

I heard this was done to reduce “accidental clicking”, ensuring that all ads are clicked on because people are actually interested in the content. Perhaps this is a good thing, because it means when we DO get a click, we’re actually providing relevant ads/real value to our readers. Just my two cents :D

my CTR varies every day. so i can’t really determine if it affected me. my site’s visitors are seasonal. that’s one reason why my ctr varies a lot.
