blogtiptuesday Are You Choking Your Readers With Your Posts?I notice that a lot of blogs I read nowadays are trying to update their blogs frequently than usual. I can see blogs being updated daily, some even post more than one post a day! Though this may seem a good thing, there are times that I couldn’t keep up with the tons of posts that I have to read. I end up being choked up with the posts that are needed to be consumed. *cough*

Too many posts is overwhelming

A ton of unread blog posts are actually not a pretty sight to some people. It’s a psychological effect wherein one feels overwhelmed with the number of posts that needs to be read. Another factor is that not everyone has the time to spare to read a lot of posts, especially if they are very long.

Picture those pile of paper that needs to be done back at your office, doesn’t it feel a little intimidating to see the stacked up pile of work on your desk? That feeling is the same feeling that your readers feel whenever they see tons of blog posts awaiting them.

As a result, people end up reading only some of the posts by scanning your post titles. Oftentimes, the posts are not read at all, which is such a waste.

So, what should you do?

You could always ask your readers first on whether you are posting too much for them to handle. If they are okay with your current posting frequency, then all is good. But if not, then it is wise to try and lower your blog’s posting frequency.

Of course, results will differ depending on the type of blog you have. Certain niches do well with a low posting frequency, some do not. Try to experiment with it and see how it will affect your blog. You could always revert back to your previous posting frequency if things are not doing well. Here are some tips on how to set the best posting frequency for your blog.

A good indicator that your posts are being read by people is through the average number of comments on your posts. If the number of comments has increased slightly as a result of lowering your posting frequency, then you are on the right track. You have actually given your readers the room to breath.

If , however, you have a newsy type blog that needs to be updated frequently, you can try to cut your post into a shorter bite-size article so it is easier to be consumed by your readers.

Slow down with the posting and it could help both you and your readers. Hope this tip helps! Happy Blogging!

You say that a good indication that people DO read your blog is when they comment. How then do you engage your readers to drop in some comments? I have just started blogging and I had some good number of readers w/c i thought was a good sign but no one really commented on my main posts. What Am I doing wrong?
