There are times that we could not avoid having conflict of ideas especially here in the blogosphere. People point out the differences in your opinions by laying out their own about the said topic. Discussions such as these should be encouraged, especially because these kinds of interactions keeps a blog alive.
However, there comes a time in the heat of exchanging of opinions, things get a little out of hand. Egos are stoked and beliefs are challenged. Out of anger, people resort to the use of comment attacking.
Comment Attack!
I have mentioned in my article, “Help! My Blog is Being Attacked! – Types of Blog Attacks“, about the nature of a blog attacks. Among them is a commonly used blog attack called “Comment attacks”.
Comment attacks are usually negatively outspoken comments that attack a post or the author directly. Some attacks on a blog are usually a sign of aggressive disagreements on a particular topic, there are also those who just want to cause some trouble (KSP attacks).
Either way, if these comment attacks are not handled carefully, it could have a negative effect on your blog. Here are some tips that I follow whenever my blog is being comment attacked.
Read the comment. The first thing that we must do is to read the comment left by the attacker. Listen to the argument left by the commentator and look for the points that they are trying to convey to you. While reading the comment be sure to…
Stay Calm. Comment attacks usually contain disheartening statements that can easily make a person angry. The best thing to do is to stay calm and don’t get too affected with the comment. Once you have heard the opinions of the attacker, the next thing to do is to…
Take action. Remember, the best way to deal with a blog attack is to prevent the situation from getting worse. Evaluate the seriousness of the situation and take the necessary actions to extinguish the problem. You could do the following things:
- Ignore the comment Sometimes it is better to ignore a comment attack. Attackers would eventually get tired of attacking your blog and leave you alone.
- Delete the comment The easiest thing to do when your blog is under a comment attack is to delete the comment and pretend that it never happened. However, you may have stopped them from leaving a comment on your blog, but they could attack you through their own blogs. Which is why, the best possible action that you should take is to…
- Reply to the comment You could reply to the comment and defend your side of the argument (if there is an argument). Make sure to reply in a diplomatic and friendly manner. Letting anger take a hold of yourself would only make things worse. You could reply to the comment through your own blog or you could make it private by confronting the sender through e-mail.
Continue blogging
After a comment attack, continue on blogging and don’t let the attacks get to you. This is only normal especially here in the world of blogging. I know of people who stopped blogging because of blog attacks that they have experienced on their blogs. Be strong. If you believe in your own opinions, stick to it, and continue what you love to do.
Hope this would help! Happy blogging!

Uhmm I’ve never received any blog attack before, but I already had a steaming debate with another viewer in someone else’s blog. Haha. Compared to him, I was calmer. I hope I will still retain that calmness when an attack takes place in my blog.
