Over the past few weeks I have been receiving some questions about Entrecard from fellow pinoy bloggers. A lot of them are actually skeptical over the new blogging phenomenon that has been sweeping the blogosphere. Some were concerned on whether Entrecard is effective in getting lots of traffic while others wanted to know if the service is really free.

To save myself from answering the same questions over and over again, I have made a mini-FAQ introducing the basic concept of Entrecard along with the answers to the questions that Pinoy bloggers have.

What is Entrecard?
Entrecard is a free advertising exchange network where bloggers can advertise on any blog found in the network for free. It is one of those blogging phenomenon that is quickly sweeping the blogosphere nowadays.

Are you familiar with the small widget below?

I bet you have been seeing it all around the blogosphere. That is called the EntreCard widget.

How does it work exactly?
The whole system actually works like this, you can get an advertisement spot on another blog found on the Entrecard network by spending Entrecard credits instead of real money. Credits can be acquired by:

a.) dropping a card on other Entrecard user blogs (1 dropped card = 1 credit)
b.) when other entrecard users drop a card on your blog (1 card dropped by you = 1 credit)
c.) when someone advertises on your widget (credit earned depends on the price of your blog)

Here’s a simple situation which can help you in visualizing how the system works:

Let us say Inday wants to advertise on Boyong’s blog through Entrecard. inday has 5 credits in her account, but the number of credits required to advertise on Boyong’s blog is 10 credits. So in order for her to be able to buy that ad spot, she must drop her e-business cards on 5 other entrecard blogs to earn 5 credits.

Let me just clarify, is it really free?
Yes, it is. You would not spend a single Peso in Entrecard. It’s all free. However, be prepared to spend a lot of time and effort in earning those credits. But of course, you could just sit back and wait for others to drop their cards on your blog.

So, is the pain and suffering all worth it?
Yes, I have been using Entrecard for 3 weeks already and traffic has gone up ever since. Half of the Entrecard traffic comes from the blogs in which I have advertised on, the other half came from those bloggers who wants to earn credits by dropping their e-business cards on mine. You’ll be receiving a taste of the traffic even after the moment you sign up!

How much traffic would I get fromEntrecard?
Just minutes after putting up the Entrecard widget, traffic started flowing in. I bought an ad spot for a low price and traffic flourished even more. From that day on, I got an additional 300 unique visitors per day and it has been growing ever since.

Wont I be receiving useless traffic?
It is indeed true that half of the traffic would be useless because many of the "card droppers" would just visit your blog to drop their cards and then leave. This is why you should know how to effectively catch the attention of your visitors. It’s all about being able to harness the great traffic brought by Entrecard.
