The great thing about blogs is that you can completely cover yourself in a world of anonymity at will. We are entitled to such privacy. You can alter your personality or become a completely different person. You have complete control over how you want others to perceive you.

It was in the Taste Asia event of SM Hypermarket last July 3 that I came to know more about the bloggers behind blogs. Bloggers were forced to bring down the curtains and show who they really are. It was like getting to know the same person you have been acquainted with in an entirely different way.

Meeting Faces Behind The Anonymity - Pinoy Blogero
Pre, You don’t need to hide anymore.
The first person that I met during the event was the figure behind Misteryosa.com. I wasn’t completely familiar with her blog, but I know that she was the winner of the Philippine Blog Awards as the Best Blog for this year. It was because of lack of acquaintance that I somehow envisioned her as a person of superiority. One of the elite. This explains my surprise when she personally greeted me when I was sitting by a corner looking completely inexperienced to such meet-ups. Naawa siguro sa itsura ko.

There was also Enrico Dee of Byahilo.com whom I had acquaintance online in the past because of the customized feed button he ordered from me. Behind the air of seriousness of his travel blog, I was surprised to find out about his jolly and outgoing self.

It was my friend Yatot of A Writer’s Blog who has completely showed me how he made use of anonymity to carve a different kind of perception of him on my mind. Ha! Fooled by the name!

But of course there are also people who are exactly how I viewed them on my head. An example of this is Billycoy of Billycoy’s Blasted Brain Blogs. Based on his works, I have seen him exactly the way that I see him through his blog. A really funny guy.

There was also Aileen Apolo from An Apple a Day. I really liked her because she was really friendly and got along easily with others. She even had a pic taken with our group.

I didn’t get a chance to meet Jayvee Fernandez and Abe Olandes personally but I got to see how they looked like. Sigh. I really wish I had the guts to confront them. It was their reputation that intimidated me from getting close.

In all, I have met a lot of bloggers on which I had a lot of surprises. The whole event has taught me a lot of things. One of them is that there are more to bloggers behind the blogs that we love to read. As their audience, we are forced to speculate who they really are, but in the end it really doesn’t matter. What matters are the words and ideas that they convey through their blogs. This makes the world of blogging interesting.
