Professional Photographer and blogger, Anton Sheker, is suing major daily giant, Manila Bulletin, for copyright infringement after the said publication used Sheker’s photos without any permission or credit on one of their issues last October 2007.
Sheker initially billed Manila Bulletin for the use of the pictures, but they refused to pay and negotiate. Months had passed with no developments, Sheker finally decided to settle the dispute on court, filing a Php1.2 Million copyright infringement lawsuit with his lawyer, Atty. Rod Vera, last June 5, 2008.
This case should serve as a lesson to everyone that not everything found on the internet can be taken for free without any consequence. Frankly, Manila Bulletin should have known better.
I also hope that this would pave the way for other oppressed copyright holders to have the courage to stand up and fight. If you are the one who made it, you have every right to defend it irregardless of what medium is used and where it was placed and taken.

i would have done the same thing… its not all about the money but to get the right credits for your work is something different.
its like getting respect from what you worked for. especially manila bulletin is considered as one of the top News Print Media in the Philippines.

dapat, before u use a pic, magpaalam muna. or at least mention the source of the image. not only image, but also if u want to use or pag may babanggitin kang galing sa iba, even ideas.
there are bloggers who asked me if they can make a post of something the same with my post. of course I said yes. and i’m happy kc galing sa akin yung idea. they even mention my blog
pero may mga nahuhuli akong hindi nagpapaalam, out of nowhere idea ko, sinulat ulit nila, and they have just visited my site. pinababayaan ko na lang. hindi naman sila biggies like Manila Bulletin hehehe

Sa program namin, sobrang ingat sa ganyan. More than the money, nakakahiya rin kapag lumabas na kami ang nananamantala.
And you’re right, sa tagal nila sa industriya, Manila Bulletin should have known better.
