Quick blog tip: Creating your blogging schedule

[Updated: Added additional tips that were shared by my readers. It can be found at the bottom of the list.]

Go through all my pages here in PinoyBlogero and you would notice that I never fail to post an image within my blog posts. It is a practice that I find very effective in attracting attention and leading visitors to read my posts.

You could also make use of this method to attract more attention to your posts. But before you go slapping your blog with images like crazy, you might want to read some tips that I have learned regarding posting images within blog posts.

  • You can post any kind of images on your blog. It can be in the form of tab-images like the one above or just a random picture that looks good. But of course, an image that is related to the theme of the post is much better than any random image. Here in PinoyBlogero, I create a comic strip that is related to the post that I am writing about. Examples of this can be found here, here and here,
  • You don’t really need to be good in drawing caricatured portraits of yourself, all you need is an eye-catching image that you can get yourself through your own camera or through the internet. But of course, having a personal touch is a plus.

  • Adding images on your posts can also add to the branding of your blog. Dosh from DoshDosh.com, a well known make money online blogger in the blogosphere, makes use of cute images of anime girls on his posts as a brand for his blog.

I, on the other hand, have also established my own brand for PinoyBlogero by placing my own distinctive artworks along with my posts.

Through these images, our visitors easily remember our blogs because our brands get stuck at the back of their heads. (Yes, the guy with the white glasses is also part of my brand)

  • Don’t overcrowd your blog with images. Having too many images surrounding a blog post makes it hard for a blog post to stand out. This can be easily portrayed with the image below.

As you can see, the circle in the middle cannot be easily noticed because of the different colored shapes surrounding it. So if you want the image on your blog post to be noticed, you must always make sure that it will stand out more by making the image more eye-catching or by removing all the other images surrounding it.

  • Don’t forget to add a description and fill out the ‘alt’ field on the images that you use on your blogs. This actually helps in search engine visibility. Make use of keywords that are associated with the image that you have posted. But of course, you could always leave it blank if you don’t want your blog to be search engine optimized.
  • Make sure that your images wouldn’t affect your blog’s page loading speed. Placing too many images on blogs actually slows down the loading speed of a blog. You could read about it here.
  • Dexter from TechAtHand.net shares that GIF images are better than JPEGs. Personally, I would prefer JPEG format when it comes to portraits or pics with high resolution. I then use PNG format on my other images, because I heard that its format are smaller than both JPEG and GIF.
  • Never forget to give credit to the original creator of the images that you put on your blog. If possible, try linking to them or thanking them at the end of your post.
  • Eugene from Vaes9 shares, “if possible, try using images that are CC-licensed. While many people would not object to you using their images if you give credit, this is still technically a form of copyright infringement since you legally need to get permission before you use the image. By using CC-licensed images, permission is already explicitly given, as long as you follow the terms of the CC license.”
  • Never hotlink the images that you find on other sources. Download the images that you wish to use first then upload it on your own servers or on image-hosting sites like imageshack and photobucket.

There you have it. Just a quick run-through of the things I have learned throughout all those times of posting images within my blog posts. Hope ths helps.
Happy blogging!
