The recent hullabaloo over the Desperate Housewives racist remark about Filipino medical practitioners has made quite an uproar lately. People began searching the net for news bits about the issue and most of those searches were directed to blogs who were (once again) the first ones to uncover the story.
I bet most of you have noticed it, if ever you blogged about the said issue, chances are that you experienced a certain increase in traffic thanks to those searches that I was talking about. Here in PinoyBlogero, my traffic skyrocketed since I made my post about the Desperate Housewives issue.

Yeah, the traffic was a good break for any blog. However, the main problem with this kind of traffic is that it only lasts for a short while. The increase in traffic would only leave a spike on our overall site traffic. Once people went on with their lives and have forgotten about this issue, we are back to those average hits that we once had before.
As short-lived as it is, we can always take advantage of the traffic upsurge while it lasts. PinoyBlogero tells you how.
Put on those ads!
Your blog won’t earn much if your ads cannot easily be seen. Pull out those ads and place it on the blog post that is getting all the traffic.
Strategically place your ads on the said article so that it would be visible. You can place it before the beginning of the article, at the end, or even in the middle. Just make sure that your readers won’t be annoyed with the ads and it would not obstruct with the flow of reading.
Promote your blog!
The only thing that people will be reading on your blog is the article that they are looking for. Once they have finished your post, they will then leave to look for other posts from other blogs.
It is at times like this that we must take some effort to promote our blogs to those incoming visitors. Do something that would make them remember your blog.
Make them remember your blog name by mentioning it throughout your article or you could try branding your blog with something that visitors could associate with when thinking of your blog. So that even if they have already left, they can easily go back to your blog.
Also, never forget to remind them to subscribe to your feeds! Tell them what they would get once they sign up for it and always make sure that your feed button can be easily seen. [Don't know what a feed is? Go here.]
Convert those visitors to regular readers!
If possible, try to convert those readers into regular readers by giving them other things that could interest them.
Tell them to look around your blog and show them your other posts. It would really help if you have a “Must read” articles section similar to the one I have on my sidebar.
You can also create another interesting article immediately after your controversial blog post (Something similar to the one that you are reading right now) so that if your visitors would browse the other contents of your blog, they would see something that are worth the read.
Who knows, they might get to like your blog that they would become a regular reader.
The next time something big comes out, always make sure that you will be one of the few who will be the first to be on top of it. The upsurge may not be permanent, but you still can use it to build up your readership and money.
Happy blogging!

Thanks for the suggestion once again (though I haven’t jumped in the Desperate Housewives bandwagon). I got my must-read article widget from you even before this post. Thanks again! Godspeed.
