Ever since I have started accepting customized feed button orders here on PinoyBlogero, I have been getting emails and messages from readers on where they can get their own RSS feeds for their blog. It seems that the RSS phenomenon only caught the attention of some bloggers probably because of my free customized feed button service.
I have already covered the topic on the importance and usefulness of RSS on a blog not long ago. In this post, I shall be helping you in finding where you can get your own RSS feed and how to set it up to broaden the opportunities for your blog.
Where to get RSS
There are many RSS providers that out on the internet for a blogger’s disposal. The more prominent ones would be Feedburner and Feedblitz. These providers aggregate a blog’s posts and sends them to its subscribers.
Signing up for a service is really easy. It is only a matter of filling out necessary details of your blog and they will do the rest. After signing up, you will most likely end up with a URL similar to this:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/pinoyblogero/vfEm
The URL that will be given to you will be your blog’s feed. If you would check out this URL you will be sent to a page where your readers can choose the feed reader they would like to send your blog’s feed to.
There you have it, it is as easy as that. Now we need to put it up on your blog.
Now that you have your blog’s feed burner URL, we can now set it up on your blog so that your readers can get on subscribing. There are two ways in which you could set up your feeds on your blog. The first method is through chicklets the other is through direct linking.
Setting it up with chicklets
As you may have seen in PinoyBlogero, I have a set of different buttons that can be found under my “Subscribe†section. These are called chicklets and are used to tell readers that the blog that they are reading has a feed that they can subscribe to.
You may be already familiar with this image. This chicklet is the recognized universal chicklet for RSS. This is one thing that I look out for when I see a blog that is worth subscribing to.
Check out this URL for additional information about this standard image.
There are also other kinds of chicklets that one can use, such as feed reader specific chicklets.

With the use of these chicklets you could have your readers choose the feed reader of your choice directly from their site. These are specific chicklets like Yahoo, Google Reader, Bloglines, MSN Reader and a lot of other feed readers.
These chicklets are fairly easy to put up on a blog. RSS providers have an easy-to-use method that generates the code of the chicklets. All you have to do is copy the code and paste it on your blog.
Setting it up with direct linking
Instead of using chicklets, you could also make use of direct linking when sending your readers to your feeds. You could do this by linking to your feed URL through the use of a text link or an image.

If you want customized feed buttons for your blog, PinoyBlogero offers his skills in drawing and Photoshop to other bloggers. Or you could always make your own.
. - .
There you have it, a simple and brief guide in setting up RSS on your blog. If you want a more in-depth coverage on RSS you could check out other great blogs that focus more on RSS Feeds.
If you have just recently put up your RSS on your blog, why not leave the URL of your site here so we could take a look at it. For more questions, don’t hesistate to leave them in the comments section, I’ll try my best to answer them using my knowledge with RSS.

Hi,
I am setting up my blog, and I just got wordpress installed and set up my template.
I had expected that Wordpress would take care of my feeds and by default I’d have one, which is not. Now, I need to make an RSS feed by myself, but I am quite unaware how to do so. Could you please help me out ? Or did I miss out on something?
Thanks, CHeers and a Happy New Year!
