battleld5 The Blogosphere: A Battlefield of Ideas and Opinions

Over the past few weeks, the Pinoy blogosphere has witnessed how minds have clashed against each other over a number of controversial issues that had been brought up by those who are concerned. Attacks were thrown back and forth from opposing parties. Some were hit, others continued to move on. Defenses were strengthened and personal barriers were brought down. All of this for the beliefs which every individual holds.

The month took off with the issue about the first episode of the FobCast by MikeVillar and the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs of 2007, followed by the concern of Noemi Dado of Touched by an Angel on Carl Ocab’s situation, then there was the misrepresentation concern raised by Jayvee of a bugged life. Everyone tried to join in on the discussion. The thing is, the people who started the issues just wanted to talk and share their thoughts. It is the readers who joined in on the discussion that made the issue out of hand.

One thing that easily separates blogging from other forms of expression is its characteristic of easily acquiring feedback from its audience, all thanks to the comment feature that are already built-in on blogs. It is through comments that discussions are established between the blogger and its readers.

Whenever there are differences in opinion, arguments ensue. Eventually, disputes would escalate into a much higher scale as more people join in on the conversation. And with more people voicing out their opinions, the more casualties there is. The whole thing results into something that we call a “Blog War”.

Yes, a blog war. And very aptly named it is.

The blogosphere can be seen as a battlefield where ideas clash against other people’s opinions with every word we type on our posts. No matter what kind of ideas we express, there would always be a wall that we would bump into. You’re voicing out your opinion, other people are voicing out theirs. We use our blogs as our fortresses which protects our own beliefs, our words as our weapons, our ideas as bullets.

As bloggers, we should keep in mind that blog wars are to be expected in the world of blogging. Blogs are made to have discussions. It is the discussions that keep the blogosphere alive. If you don’t want anyone criticizing your work, leave your blog and go and write your thoughts on a piece of paper and put it under your bed where people couldn’t see it.

Whether you have participated in the discussion or just have been an observer of events, we must keep in mind that disputes are only normal in a world where there are differences in opinion. In the end, no matter how many times we fight for what we think is right, the blogosphere would continue to be a place where battles will always be fought.

Happy blogging!

“Your opinion is as good as mine!”, ika nga.

Mas matindi ang forum war kaysa sa blog war. Kung minsan nagiging personalan pa.
