Now that you have already decided which blog topic your blog is going to discuss, the next logical step for us to take is to think of a blog name.

Yes, you may want to start this early. Thinking of a name for a blog is not as easy as you think. Some of you may be thinking that you could change your blog name anytime so there is no need to think about it at an early stage. This may be true. However, having a well established name at the very beginning would ensure a stable growth for your blog.

Naming your blog
Naming a blog is very different from naming a couple of goldfishes (Nemo, Goldy, Blacky), pet dogs (Bruno, Browny, Blacky), Macs (Arthur, Blacky, Pinky) and even babies (Junior, Browny, Blacky). Naming a blog needs to be considered carefully because it will be the mirror of yourself. It will stick to your name as the mouthpiece of your thoughts.

Factors to consider
When I think of a name for a blog, what I usually do is I list all idea names that I want my blog to have. Before Pinoy Blogero, among my list were blog names like Pinoy Big Blogger (Already taken), Pinoysilog (I’m stillthinking of using it in the future) and even, PinoyBlam! (Sounds cool, no?). There were more but I still ended up with Pinoy Blogero after considering the following factors:

Relation to Blog Topic - The first thing that we must consider in thinking of a blog name is to look for a name that is related to your blog’s topic. A blog on cellphones with a blog name of "JellyAce" would surely cause confusion. Your visitors must be able to tell what your blog is about from your blog name. But of course, this is not always the case.
Uniqueness - When looking for a name for a blog, we must consider its uniqueness. Pick a name that will set your blog apart from others. Search the net for names that has already been taken, if it has already, pick another name or you could alter it slightly. For example, if PinoyBlogero is already taken, you could use PinoyBlogista or something like that. (Registering PinoyBlogista soon, hehe)
Stickiness - Most people would easily forget an author’s name (Juan Karlo Licudine, let’s see if you can easily remember that), but a well-thought blog name usually sticks to the backs of visitors minds. Which is why we must consider having some sort of stickiness to your blog’s name. Blog names such as these are usually brandable.
Keword Based? - Jumping to a more technical side, we must also consider if you want your blog to be keyword based? Keyword based are blog names that contain keywords which is a good thing if you are a niche blog which targetis search engine traffic. TechnologyAtHand is one good example which uses the keyword "Technology" on the name of his blog.
Domain Name Use - Many bloggers make use of their blog names for their domain names. If you are thinking of doing so, you may want to see if the domain name is still available before it is too late.

There you have it guys. Hope these factors may help you in picking a name for your blog. Watch out for the next post of the "Starting Out A New Blog Series" by subscribing to my feeds!

LOL, I carefully chose my domain & blog name to reflect my personality (off-beat crazy).

To this day, I still get inquiries as to what it means. Some of the funny assumptions made by visitors:
    - “gay man”
    - “fave brand of cereal”
