When I first heard about the new TV show on GMA called “Ka-Blog”, I almost jumped to my feet.
“Ka-Blog? Wow. Is that a new TV show about blogging?”
The thought of such a show was enough to get me excited. Finally, people are slowly starting to realize how big blogging here in the Philippines has become.
Much to my disappointment, I later found out that the show Ka-Blog  was in no way related to blogging. It was actually a magazine type show that features everything about adolescent life.
I think it would’ve been cool if the show turned out to be a show about blogging. Imagine a show where tips and tricks about blogging and earning money are given out every episode. You could get the latest news and happenings in the Pinoy blogosphere. Different bloggers are featured every week! Yeah, kinda like the same things I do here.
Not only will this kind of show be a big help to bloggers, it might also catch the interest of non-bloggers and make our community grow even more.
The Search for a Blogging TV Show
Now we all know that blogging has already been featured on the local media countless of times. Show segments bits at most but not a whole show dedicated to blogging.
Fueled by curiosity, I tried checking out if there are any shows on other countries that focus on blogging. I was actually surprised to found out that there were none. If there were any, It probably lacked the presence within the blogging community.
Though, it is interesting to note that there was a local show that features blogging as a part of their story. I’m talking about Going Public, a pseudo reality show following the life of a person who found out he was being “Blogged” and later became famous because of it. Too bad it isn’t being aired anymore.
A Hint to the TV People
With the way blogging is rapidly growing, and with more people trying it out, I still wonder why there still isn’t a TV show about blogging. I mean, I don’t think that there would be a problem about viewership (2.3 Million Bloggers and growing). Plus, I think it would be a show that would also have great support from the community.
Don’t get me wrong. Not that there really is any need for a blogging TV show. I just think it would be cool. It would’ve been the bridge between the new and traditional media that I know would greatly benefit and expand both worlds.
Host? No. Sorry. I’m camera shy.

October 22nd, 2008 at 10:15 am@Hannah, like I have mentioned, Ka-Blog is not a TV show about blogging but a show about adolescent life. So, hindi talaga sila mga bloggers. ^_^

October 23rd, 2008 at 2:37 amQuarterlife’s main protagonist is a blogger. A videoblogger gushing about her life and her friends’ lives. It’s not really about blogging, but that’s the closest I can think of. Aside from Gossip Girl!
I would think it’d be cooler if a show about blogging be aired online. Offline, it’d have to go through too many transformations to become even recognizable. And reputable.

October 23rd, 2008 at 8:48 amYup, I was also excited with Ka-Blog when I saw the teasers, but got disappointed when it aired. Though the show is cool for teens, I think they shouldn’t have used the term “blog” for the title. Hehe.

October 23rd, 2008 at 3:16 pmYes, I know about this show and I was got frustrated. But who knows? I am always saying this to my non-blogging friends, that in the near future blogging will be just like cell phones.
I still remember the time when only class A people (of course, I am not included…lol) can buy cell phone. Ngayon, kahit nagtatawag lang ng jeep may cell phone na…he3!

October 24th, 2008 at 7:38 am@ia, Yes, having it online is much easier than online. Though I think there are also some benefits when we have it offline, like catching the interest of non-bloggers.
@ner, Well, I don’t want to say that they did it to mislead bloggers into thinking that it is a show about blogging. Pero, are there any other reason that they named it that way?
@Angel Cuala, yes, blogging will be the next big thing in the future. Judging from the way Pinoys jumped on the Cellphone craze, it is not so hard to believe that they wouldn’t do the same on blogging.

October 29th, 2008 at 1:52 pmI had the same reaction with ka-Blog.
“I tried checking out if there are any shows on other countries that focus on blogging.”
Isn’t it like looking for a TV show about radio programs?
TV’s always have a way of saying “Look at me! Look at me!” I doubt they will say “Look at your computer.” any time soon.

November 3rd, 2008 at 9:29 pmThe only thing is, how would it be viable to have a television show about blogging when blogger’s are inherently tuned into another medium: say their laptops, PCs and techie stuffs and are natural readers and writers who are a breed on their own?
Essentially, the TV networks may find that there are significant readership on a certain blog or blogs but would it necessarily turn to viewership? I have read somewhere that most bloggers are either students, or professionals that use the internet throughout their day in school or in the offices.
With this information, who then will watch the tube about blogging. When we as bloggers can find all the information necessary to blog, in let’s say a site like yours. I guess, your post is progressive in its views as it aims–at least in my understanding–to meld together two very different mediums the internet and a network mandated tv show. Youtube anyone?
Karlo.PinoyBlogero
November 3rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm@Mahalia, I don’t believe that the whole blogging population prefers ditching their TV sets to spend all their hours in front of their PCs. I mean not everyone is as addicted as some of us.
Furthermore, even if we say that there are students and professionals who only have access to computers and not to TV sets, I don’t think that their numbers are that great to cause an shortage of viewership.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

November 14th, 2008 at 5:47 pmI was also excited about this show, but upon watching LOL. I turned the TV off. They dunno the meaning of Blog. “Ka-Blog” ugh, “Ka-weblog?” Sana ginawa na lang nilang “Ka-TV”

November 16th, 2008 at 6:42 amKa-Blog has nothing to do about blogging. The title is just riding on the popularity of the word.
wala ginagawa dun sa show kundi magpa-cute at magbigay daw ng advice ang mga taong mukhang wala namang ka-muwang-muwang sa buhay.
it’s nothing but a rehash of channel 7’s docu show given a “youth’s touch” kuno…
“Ka-TV?” mukhang mas bagay ang “Ka-Lokohan”

November 17th, 2008 at 3:54 pmWhy should there be a TV show about blogging? Isn’t that going totally against what blogging (and new media in general) has tried to establish?
And I don’t think a TV show about blogging would get mileage out of possible storylines.

November 17th, 2008 at 7:57 pm@ Ada — I agree! That’s so true. How are the TV Networks going to translate something interactive and readable (if there is such a word) into a one way media and somewhat visual? Although, I’ve only seen clips from the Net about this show. If they are thinking of starting a blog show, it should it an information and educational show about How to Write Better, What to Write about, Journalism Basic, etc etc.

the internet has definitely become a great tool for pinoys to get heard & if a television show surrounding the topic were created, i’m sure it’d be a hit… just as long & viewers were able to catch episodes ONLINE. haha…
