This is second part of the “What My Previous Blogs Have Taught Me” series here in Pinoy Blogero. This series recounts the different blogs that I have made in the past while sharing the many things that I have learned through them. You can read the about what my other previous blog has taught me here.

Learning from my blogs

“Mr. Licudine, kanina ka pa nakangiti, a? May dumi ba ako sa mukha?

Ang Tall Tale Ko (http://namre.blogspot.com)
The first time I have heard about blogging in 2006, I immediately left my friendster account and headed straight to blogger to sign up. Why blogger? I don’t know of any blogging sites at that time and blogger was on top of google’s list. I found blogging to be fascinating because it gives ordinary people a way to express all their thoughts easily through the net.

Ang Tall Tale Ko is my very firt blog which features a collection of “tall tales” taken from the different points of my life. A tall tale is an account of an event that is true yet greatly exaggerated. A more loose translation of the word would be “Kwentong Barbero” in Tagalog. It features true to life events from Karlo Licudine’s life that are slightly altered to make it more interesting.

Compared to my first site, Ang Tall Tale Ko had a slightly higher hit rate. This may be because of the network of blogger friends that I have accumulated during my first blogging days.

As the weeks passed, visits from other bloggers became less and less frequent. It seems that reading “made up” stories weren’t really as interesting as I thought it would be. There was even a time that someone told me that my blog should have a more focused topic if I wanted more people to visit my site. I ignored the advice and continued what I was doing.

The decreasing number of visits slowly affected my determination for blogging. With every day that passes with no visitors, the more I became uninterested in making a posting.

After four months of existence, my site counter halted to a number of 80 visits. It was at that time that I have decided to leave blogging. I deleted it and never looked back. I thought that maybe blogging wasn’t really the right thing for me.

Or so I thought.

Lessons Learned:
1.) Blogger is not the only blogging platform on the net.
2.) Sometimes people want real life stories. That is why they read personal blogs, they want to know who the author is through their blogs.
3.) If you are going to write about something, make sure it is interesting and worth reading. Otherwise, you’ll just end up wasting your energy and your time.
4.) Always make sure to update frequently. Infrequent updates is one sure fire way to losing your blog readers.
5.) Don’t just confine yourself to your blog. Make it a habit to read and comment on other people’s blogs.
6.) Establish connections with other bloggers. You would be surprised how they can help you in many ways.
7.) Blogging is never easy. It takes a lot of time and effort in creating and maintaining it.
8.) A blog grows with time. Be patient.
9.) Never evaluate yourself through your blog’s worth. It will only let you down.
10.) Never delete your blog no matter how embarrassed you are with it. Ouch.

So there you have it, the things that my online friend has taught me in the world of blogging. On the next installment of this series, I will be featuring a niche blog that I have made before Pinoy Blogero. Found out why I left it and what lessons it has taught me soon!

I’m guilty of doing #10 and only doing #5partially.

Sayang talaga when I deleted my first blog (blogger din), I’ve felt myself grow as a blogger din kaya it would have been fun going through my first posts.

I bloghop a lot (I find this better than watching tv) but very seldom comment. Maybe this time I’ll comment more and make my presence felt…hehe

@Onnyx, everyone fails the first time around. This is why we need experience. The reason why I did this post is for you guys to learn from my mistakes. So you dont need to experience it yourself.

@invisiblewings, well. It is only natural to have that gut feeling especially when you have experienced failures. Pero sayang din talga. Maging ako naguguilty sa aking pag delete sa kanya. Now, I dont have any blog to look back to.
