The concept of blogging is to write what your heart tells you to write. So, I believe it will be your own decision. Although in some cases especially if you created your blog as a form of getting revenues (which most bloggers do) instead of just simply writing what's on your mind, I believe you should ask your readers because your getting revenues from your readers through your blog.

Jay Bray's last blog post..Blogger Pixel Ads Promo - $1/year for 100 pixels

Wow, is that a problem? I got kicked out Google AdSense, my puny web site got hacked, and I'm having problems re-registering my domain with Google Apps. Good luck changing the world, I mean, deciding whether to agree to guest posting or not.

Karlo,

It's always nice to ask your blog readers as it sends the message that you care about their opions and that they matter. Personally, I'd encourage my blog readers to share their feedback so I can improve my blog. After all, my blog readers are the reasons why my blog thrives.

Unfortunately, trying to please each one of them could be a disaster. If you have a pool of blog readers who have different and conflicting ideas, doing your best to reconcile their differences and cater to all their request is just impossible. This is where your personal judgment as the owner of the blog comes to place.

Cheers,
Rocky

I think you and readers must meet half-way.. I think that's the win-win solution.. In this way, you're readers will feel some sort of involvement without breaking your personal visions as the chieftain of this blog..

there are readers who actually don't know what they want from a certain blog. A well-written and an interesting post will get them into thinking, and make them come back for more. And I think you've done that.

You listen, then decide. This blog is yours.

i think a few inputs or feedback from readers won't hurt. it's not like they make the decisions, its still yours to make.

@Jon Limjap I didn't say that readers will be the one to decide what a blogger should blog about. I'm talking about other decision problems like what posting frequency a blog should take, or if it is okay to do sponsored posts on a blog, or something similar.

But I'm not saying that we should give all the power to our readers (it may lead to the possible destruction of your blog), just give them a chance to share their opinion over the matter.

@Barabara Ling

It’s like hosting an informal get-together at your home. You welcome input and conversation and suggestions but at the end of the day, you’re the one who remains after everyone has left.

Nicely put. It's still your blog, you just asked for your readers input to further improve your blog.

@Edward Yes, that's what I'm trying to say on my article. Oh, and yes, balance is also important. In the end, it is both the blogger and reader who should be making decisions on a blog.

@Entrepenars Well, I guess it will depend on the blog. Take my blog for example, I value my readers feedback because it is more like a community blog. But when it comes to News type blogs, they wouldn't care less about the feedback of their readers.

I say 40% of the decision-making must come from your readers and 60% must come from yours...You still have the final decision while taking into consideration your readers...

Still, be sensitive to what catches your readers interests. Just try to make a balance between what you like to share or what you love to do, and to what your readers or followers want. =)
